UK visa brake changes come into effect today, 26 March 2026

Student visa applications submitted from today by nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan will be refused (as will Skilled Worker visa applications submitted by nationals of Afghanistan) where the applications are submitted from outside the UK. This includes where a sponsor has already assigned a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) or Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

The government has stated that the brake will not be permanent and will be regularly reviewed.

It is important to be aware that the visa brake rules apply to those submitting applications from outside the UK. If an individual already holds a valid visa for the UK, their permission remains valid until it expires and they are still able to apply to remain in the UK where eligible.

If you or someone you know is impacted by the visa brake changes and is seeking immigration support, please get in touch with our team today.

Any applications submitted online after 12:01am on 26 March 2026 will be refused if you are applying for: - a Student visa and you are a national of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar or Sudan. - a Skilled Worker visa and you are a national of Afghanistan. This includes if you already have either a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or a valid Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
