The Government is consulting on various aspects of the LGPS (Local Government Pension Scheme) regulations which directly impact academies in two main areas. The proposals are:
- That academy trusts that are split geographically across a number of pension funds are able to consolidate all of their schools into one administering authority; and,
- that there would be no requirement for contractors to become admitted bodies in the LGPS on outsourcing - the academy trust would act as the “deemed employer” during the term of the contract.
The above changes provide a significant shift in how academies interact with the LGPS and suggest that substantial efficiencies will be seen if the changes are enacted. The consultation runs until 22nd December 2025.
