Safeguarding and the role of social media

TikTok and YouTube content have been criticised by Ofcom as they are "not safe enough" for children. It seems that there continues to be a lack of "industry-leading, age-appropriate" experiences for children giving further cause for concern for the well-being and safety of our children and young people, and the need for stronger protections.

Feeding back on the Government consultation on the statutory ban on social media for those under 16 is an opportunity for us all to help shape the support for those working with children, including schools, local authorities and, of course, parents and carers.

The consultation remains open until 26 May 2026. You can take part in the consultation on the UK Gov website.
