Agreement finalised to bring UK into Erasmus+ from 2027

Following a commitment first made at the inaugural EU-UK Summit in May 2025,  it has been confirmed that the UK will be participating in Erasmus+ from 2027.

The scheme will be managed through the British Council and will provide opportunities for students, apprentices and young people from the UK to “gain knowledge and experience by studying, training or working abroad” in other participating countries. Likewise, the announcement confirms that “UK institutions and communities will also once again welcome EU participants and the skills, diversity and culture they bring”.

There will be funding available for both long and short-term placements and partnerships, with the first applications opening in November 2026.

It is very welcome news that this scheme will once again be open to the UK, and we recommend that interested organisations sign up for updates through the British Council website.

Over 100,000 people are expected to benefit in the first year alone, including apprentices on placements in leading European companies, school groups taking part in cultural exchanges, and organisations collaborating on new cross-border initiatives.
