From 25 February 2026, visitors from 85 visa-exempt countries, including the US, Canada, and France, will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. This means that travellers will no longer be able to board flights to the UK without prior digital permission.
The ETA, which costs £16, can be applied for through the official UK ETA app. It is recommended to allow three working days prior to travel when applying for an ETA in case additional checks are required. Carriers will check ETA approval before travel, making it essential for all eligible visitors.
British and Irish citizens, including dual nationals, are exempt, but dual British citizens should ensure they travel with a valid British passport or certificate of entitlement to avoid being denied boarding.
Should you require guidance on the new ETA requirements or support with preparing for travel to the UK from February 2026, our Immigration Team is available to provide expert advice and assistance.
